Omani Presence in East Africa
The three-part documentary series is an Omani-German co-production commissioned by Nizwa Magazine in Oman.
An international film team is currently carrying out the production, the completion of which was planned for the end of 2020. The advent of the COVID19 pandemic will delay finalization.
The focus of the films is the intercultural exchange that took place in almost all areas of life in the 19th and early 20th centuries between Omani merchants and the people of East Africa: in religion and education, language and administration, technology and trade, agriculture and crafts, hygiene and medicine, food and clothing, music and poetry.
Main footage acquisition takes place in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and the Congo. Additional filming is done in Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, the Comoros, Oman, Pakistan, South Africa and the USA.
